Disability and Community Services

The Disability and Community Services Commissioner considers complaints about the provision of services for:

• people with disability and/or their carers
• older people and their carers
• children and young people and their carers
• abuse, neglect or exploitation of vulnerable older people and people with a disability

The role of the Commissioner is to:

• handle individual complaints and initiate own motion considerations of systemic issues
• promote improvements in the provision of services
• promote the rights of users of services
• promote an awareness of the rights and responsibilities of users and providers of services.

The Commissioner is involved in legislative reform and policy development affecting these groups in our community and works with other organisations and agencies to promote the rights of these groups.
